Washington Square

The pattern for this quilt (inspired by a quilt I saw at the 2009 Festival of Trees) reminded me of the way that downtown Salt Lakersquo;s streets are laid out in a grid pattern. I named the quilt ldquo;Washington Squarerdquo; for the city block where the beautiful, historic Salt Lake City and County Building is located.

Pieced by Kathy Cracroft Wilhelmsen (Draper, Utah ndash; 2010).

The fabrics in this quilt were Christmas gifts: a layer cake from Barbara McFarlane and a charm pack from Kathleen Morgan Squires. Both are from the Wiscasset line by Moda. I purchased extra fabric for the sashings, borders, back, and binding.

When I attended the 2009 Festival of Trees, I saw a beautiful quilt on display and before I got out of the parking lot, I drafted out a version of it onto a piece of scrap paper.

I have long wanted to be part of the Festivalrsquo;s efforts to raise money for Primary Childrenrsquo;s Hospital, and I was pleased to donate this quilt, which was purchased at the festival auction for $425.
