Pieced by Kathy Cracroft Wilhelmsen (Draper Utah ndash; January 2007).
Pattern:ldquo;Just Canrsquo;t Cut It!rdquo;
All the fabrics in this quilt were chosen with Nicole Russell in mind:
Dogs of all varieties
Hawaii and tropical flowers
Quilters; sewing needles and thread for her fashion design skills
Flamingoes and fanciful fairies
Dancing frogs (she likes dancing but not frogs!)
Doctors and nurses, bandaids and medicine
Irises (Popsrsquo; favorite flower)
A vintage Wizard of Oz print
And of course lots of brights and purples
On the back, Laika is looking off into space (maybe at Nicole walking on the moon!) Laika was foundation-pieced from a pattern from The Quilterrsquo;s Ark.
My sister-in-law Barbara McFarlane donated lots of novelty fabric from her stash for this quilt. The pink Oz fabric I found on eBay; this line came out in 2000 and is no longer available.When Barbararsquo;s friend Kathleen Morgan Squires heard about Nicole, she donated some Oz fabric shersquo;d purchased years ago, and I used some of that to make a pillowcase.
. . . and somewhere in this quilt is a little piece of Noah fabric, just to remind Nicole of who made it for her.
Custom quilted by Jan Heffernan (at Quilts Etc., January 2007)
Jan put lots of surprises in this quilt ndash; Nicolersquo;s name, Laikarsquo;s name, the word Hawaii, butterflies, dragonflies, stars, daisies, hearts, and planets!
