Explosion at the PAAS Factory: a quilt to dye for!

Explosion at the PAAS Factory: a quilt to dye for!

Designed and pieced by Kathy Cracroft Wilhelmsen (Draper, Utah ndash; 2013)

My son David suggested the name for this quilt ndash; it does look like a riotous mix of Easter egg colors! A drug store owner named William Townley invented PAAS dyes in 1880. The name PAAS comes from passen, the Pennsylvania Dutch word for Easter. Today PAAS sells more than 10 millioon Easter egg color kits during each Easter season.

I love traditional blocks with a modern look. It was fun playing in my ldquo;brightrdquo; scraps to find the fabrics for the 35 9-inch Churn Dash blocks in this scrappy, sunny quilt. The Kaffe Fassett border was a nice serendipitous find at the end.
