Pieced by Kathy Cracroft Wilhelmsen (Draper, Utah – 2010).

I first heard the word “gallimaufry” as I was listening to Laurie R. King’s The God of the Hive. Curiosity sent me to the online dictionary, where I found these synonyms: a jumble, a hodgepodge, mishmash, mixed bag, a great assortment, and – my favorite – patchwork, as in patchwork quilt.

This quilt, a disappearing four-patch variation, is made mostly from a “gallimaufry” of fabric left over from my “Washington Square” quilt.
