This quilt was made during the 2018-2019 Block-of-the-Month class at Quilt Etc. in Sandy,
The year's theme was The Great Quilt Read, a take-off on the PBS show, The Great American Read. Each month one of the store employees talked about a favorite book, its characters and themes, and the author.
Presentations included Charlotte's Web, Frankenstein, The Hiding Place, I Am the Messenger, The Magician's Nephew, Two Old Women, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, To the Bright Edge of the World, A Wrinkle in Time, Huckleberry Finn, Where the Red Fern Grows, and To Kill a Mockingbird.
I've come to learn over the years that quilters and readers are often cut form the same cloth.
As the setting for this quilt, I modified and simplified the pattern"Reach for the Stars" by Terry Krysan.
