Although the designer of this pattern was inspired by San Francisco’s
“Painted Ladies” district, I named my interpretation after The Avenues,
a distinctive landmark along the steep streets above Salt Lake City.
This iconic Victorian-era neighborhood has undergone many changes
over its 175 years. While only a few architecturally treasured homes
have been spared through historical preservation, The Avenues still has
a distinctive and eclectic elegance, oddness, and charm. Building these
one-of-a-kind houses from fabric scraps and leftovers was lots of fun.
(P.S. The horse fabric on the back has no symbolic, or any other kind of,
connection to this quilt except that it was a “stampede” of the right colors
and it was quality Free Spirit fabric on the clearance shelf.)
