By The Sea
Pieced by Kathy Cracroft Wilhelmsen (Draper, Utah – Fall 2006).
The center of this quilt, with its beach-themed fabrics, started out as a small baby quilt kit that I purchased at Thimbles ‘n Threads. After putting the initial blocks together, the quilt “told” me that it wanted something more. In our block-of-the-month class at Quilt Etc., I had learned how to make the sailboat block, and that seemed like the perfect addition to the outside corners of this quilt. In making the back, I wanted to put extra fabric to good use as well as do something more than just a plain back.
The longarm quilter used a shell-and-starfish motif in the outer borders and waves throughout, and she “hid” fish randomly in the center.
I said for a long time that this quilt was for my “imaginary grandson.” It now belongs to my very real grandson Bennett, a boy more wonderful than I ever could have imagined!
