After Schlumberger closed its Austin center, I commuted for 8 months between Austin and Houston, sometimes taking Highway 290 and sometimes Highway 71 to Interstate 10. It was a bucolic, relaxing drive every time with occasions of great beauty in the early morning or early evening, particularly during the late Fall.
