Kimono Doll

Kimono Doll

Made by Kathy Cracroft Wilhelmsen (Draper, Utah – February 2008), and sold by the Alzheimer’s Art Quilt Initiative at the 2008 Houston International Quilt Festival for $50 to benefit Alzheimer’s research.

From a pattern by Helen Ryan in the book Favourite Quilts, ed. Sue Aiken, and used for this non-profit purpose with the kind written permission of the publisher. Paper-pieced from high-quality Asian-themed fabrics and machine quilted.

The kimono doll is surrounded by Asian symbols significant to both those who have Alzheimer’s disease and those who love them. The inner border of bamboo fabric symbolizes longevity, flexibility, strength, and grace. The outer border of cranes flying through darkness represents peace, long life, and “iyashi,” Japanese for healing.

Size is 9 x 11.5 inches.
