Generations

Traditionally this block is known as the Grandmotherrsquo;s Album or Granny Square quilt block. The center square represents the baby, and each color outward symbolizes a generation past: parents, grandparents, great-grandparents. That is why I chose the name Generations for this quilt.
Each block is made up of 41 1.5-inch (unfinished) squares, and the entire quilt has more than 1,100 of these tiny squares. Each piece was put into the quilt individually ndash; no strip piecing. To me, each square represents a cherished ancestor. The quilt was made entirely from scraps and leftovers; I love honoring the quilting tradition of frugality.
