The Queen Bee

The Queen Bee

Pieced by Kathy Cracroft Wilhelmsen (Draper, Utah ndash; 2007).

Pattern in Patchwork Made Easy by Jean Wells. This quilt is made up of thirty Aunt Vidarsquo;s Favorites blocks in scrappy fabrics of cheddar, black-on-cream, and cream-on-black.

Both my daughter Mary and my niece Sandy said the colors in the quilt reminded them of bumblebees, hence the name ldquo; The Queen Bee.rdquo; In the Wilhelmsen family, some of us strong women with commanding personalities have at times been referred to as ldquo; The Queen Bees.rdquo; When I told Corey the quiltrsquo;s name, he got a little smile on his face and said there is a female rapper named Lil Kim who calls herself ldquo; The Queen Brdquo; ndash; the B standing for a certain word! I liked the name on both counts!

Vicky Westmoreland custom-quilted the body of the quilt in charcoal thread with meandering bumblebees and the border of the quilt in cheddar thread with a repeating pattern of beehives, bees, and flowers.

Custom quilted by Vicky Westmoreland (Salt Lake City, Utah)
Size is 70 x 84 inches.
